U.S. Possessions
GUAM

A former Spanish Island possession, Guam was captured by the United States and ceeded to
the US by treaty following the Spanish-American War. Overprinted stamps were used until March 1901.
Regular US stamps were used after that date.
Guam Guard stamps were started as a local post office service after the U.S. Post Office Department
refused to expand service on Guam. Guam Guard stamps were used until April 8, 1931.
